Jesse Redheart is the great grandnephew of Chief Joseph. He has a wife and six kids. He used to ride broncos but he gave that up to train and breed Appaloosas. He lives on the Lapwai reservation in Idaho. Jesse rides horses the same way his ancestors used to which is by knotting handmade reins around the muzzle. All of his kids ride, including the youngest. Jesse wears a Nez Perce outfit that he inherited from his grandmother. There is a war bonnet of black and white turkey feathers in front by a row of dyed red feathers. White ermine tails stream from the beaded headband. The buckskin trousers and jacket are adorned with beads of blue, white, red, and yellow. He has 28 Appaloosas.

There are many ways to tell what an Appaloosa looks like. One of them being that they have striped, durable hooves, that are wide at the heel. They have a long head with a flat profile, with mottled skin around the nose and eyes. With the eyes, there needs to be a white are around the iris. A deep, narrow, and medium chest with long, sloping shoulders. The long, muscular, medium neck and muscular agile legs. Appaloosas usually have a tapered tail. Many Indians liked this because the tail wouldn’t tangle in thorns and brush. But even with all these qualifications, an Appaloosa can’t be registered unless he has spots with the skin color being the same color as the spots. Their height is from around 14.2- 16 hands high. The weight is from 900- 1150 pounds. They are known for having a fast easy walk called he “ indian shuffle .“ There are five different coat patterns. Leopard, white with dark spots; Snowflake, white spots all over the body but concentrated over the hindquarters. Another one is Blanket, where the quarters maybe spotted or white; Marble, a mottled pattern over the body, and Frost, white specks on a dark back ground.

There are two different stories that tell how the Nez Perce got the Appaloosa and thus began the history of the Appaloosa. One story is where a Dutch ship was sinking and the stallions swam a shore to the northwest coast and the indians found them and bred them to their best mares. The second story is most likely the true story. When the Spaniards came, they brought horses with them and the horses escaped and made their way to Idaho. It’s been debated about when the Nez Perce started breeding the Appaloosa. Some say the 1500’s and others say the1700’s. One thing is known though, the breed got it’s name from the Palouse river. Apparently, the reasons why the horses were always of the highest quality is the Nez Perce either traded or gelded horses that were not at the set standard. Because of these standards the Appaloosa was described by Meriweather Lewis as being “ An excellent race. They are lofty, elegantly formed and durable.”

One of the reasons why the Nez Perce choose the Appaloosa is because they liked bright colored horses. They could have chosen the Pinto,Paint,or the Palomino for their mounts, but they created the Appaloosa so it would be their own. From all the years of careful breeding they created an Appaloosa that had a distinguished appearance. For one thing, theirs hooves were really strong and could stand up to the pounding of the hard earth and the jagged rocks that littered the ground. They made good mounts for racing and hunting. A good reason why they were such good buffalo mounts is because they were versatile and had good endurance and temperaments. Appaloosas are also very willing and intelligent. For trading an Appaloosa, you could get anything you wanted like a wife or enough food for the winter!

Chief Joseph was fine breeder of horses and a good chief. He made a famous speech with the words “ From the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.” He was told to give up the land by the whites but he wouldn’t sell the land and that decision escalated into a war. He did eventually move onto a reservation. As the Nez Perce were moving to the reservation, some of the warriors killed settlers and that sent the Army to destroy them. Joseph and his band tried to flee to Canada and they almost made it, except the Army reached them first. He surrendered with the condition that they gave up their horses and they did. Joseph often thought about the horses they had given up and quoted “ somebody has got our horses.” He died in 1904 from a broken heart.

Let us remember the
Fallen
Not the heroes, nor the
People we care about
But the ones that have
Fallen from grace
People say that the
Fallen were bad and
Deserved to be the
Fallen
But no one is ever
Really bad or evil
They just made choices
Like Eve, who ate the
Apple
A lot of people say that
They wouldn't have eaten
The apple, they would have
Stayed in Eden since it
Was safer
Fools, no choices are ever
Safe
Just different
The fallen weren't
Evil, they just made
Different choices
Choices that made
People think they were
Foolish or evil
Choices that made the
Judgement say they
Had fallen from
Grace
When it was just a
Different choice

I can't feel my senses
I just feel the cold
All colours seem to fade
Away
I can't feel my soul
I would stop running
If I knew there was a
Chance
It tears me apart to
Sacrifice it all
But I'm forced to let go
Tell me I'm frozen
But what can I do?
Can't tell the reasons
I did it for you
When lies turn into
Truth
I sacrifice for you
You say that I am frozen
But what can I do?
I can feel your sorrow
You won't forgive me
But I know you'll be
Alright
It tears me apart
Thatyou will never know
But I have to let go
Tell me I'm frozen
But what can I do?
Can't tell the reasons
I did it for you
When lies turn into truth
I sacrifice For you
You say that I am frozen
But what can I do?
Everything will slip away
Shattered pieces will
Remain
When memories fade into
Emptiness
Only time will its
Tale
If it all has been in
Vain
I can't feel my senses
I just feel the cold
Frozen
But what can I do?
Frozen
Tell me I'm frozen
But what can I do?
Can't tell the reasons
I did it for you
When lies turn into
Truth
I sacrifice for you
You say that I am frozen

The golden black stare
Of the pretty face
That invaded your mind
Her type' s not hard
To find
She' s the night of
Your demise
Try to run away with
The gypsy woman
But you can' t go
With her
She talks with agrin
Cause she' s got no shame
Enjoy the fame
Bringing down the
Family name
Try to run away with
The gypsy woman
But you can' t go
With her
She' s got you
Stumbling
St St Stum
Stumbling
Try to run away
With the gypsy woman
But you can' t go
With her
She can rob you
Blind
With just one look
Out of all the theives that
Trained her
None of them
Could tame her
Heyyyyyy
Try to run away with
The gypsy woman
Thought no one
Would know
Tell me it was
Worth it
Can you tell me
It was worth
It ?

For the Social Studies project, my favorite thing was working on the computer. The worst part was having to turn in things late. The one thing I learned was how to use a digital camera. This wasn’t an easy project, but it turned out to be a fun project.

Working on the computer after getting the photos on the computer was awesome. It was a little difficult when we had to keep using different cameras. There was also deleting scenes that weren’t needed and bumping up a lot of the scenes. I learned how to import the photos on to the computer and how to put them in our Imovie project. One of the best things was playing the movie and seeing the clay figures move. The audio was fun to because I didn’t know how my own voice sounds! It’s helpful to me because now I can make my own clay mation movie.

Turning in things late was one of the worst things ever since we kept getting low grades. Most of the scenes were pretty short too. People in the group were also goofing off when we were supposed to be working on the scenes, and wouldn ‘t stop goofing off. There was also redoing scenes that were crappie. Some people either forgot their camera or weren’t there and we had to use the school library cameras. I wish we had had more time on this. We probably should have chosen some different scenes that would have been longer, and shouldn’ t have been fooling around.

An important thing I learned form this project was how to use a digital camera since I had never used one before. Taking pictures wasn’ t difficult once I learned how to turn off and on the camera and what buttons to use for zooming in or out and taking the picture. I never did understand how to delete pictures. mostly the other members in the group did the deleting. There were some difficulties when we took pictures but never got the same camera again. It was also never easy in keeping the camera still. Since learning this, I’m really into taking pictures and my mom said she would get me a digital camera.

All three of these things contributed to the project. Importing and working with photos on the computer helped make a nice movie. Turning things in late helped me realize to get things done on time and to make other people work as well. Learning to use a digital camera showed ma how much I want to do photography. As I said before, doing this project was hard but fun.

Alfred Hitchcock was not only known as the “ Master of Suspense “, he also liked to set challenges for himself. What was the challenge for “ Rear Window ” ? It was to make a great story with the camera never leaving Jeff‘ s apartment. There are three ways that Hitchcock made this film interesting. They were : You could spy on the neighbors through Jeff ‘ s binoculars and camera , he always added new characters, and using Jeff ‘ s imagination and reporter skills to solve the murder .

Using his camera and binoculars, we find out which neighbors Jeff was spying on. For example, he could have been spying on Miss Torso, who had a lot of men friends, but never dated any of them because she was waiting for her boyfriend to come back from the army. Then there was Miss Lonelyheart, who was depressed about not having many boyfriends and was going to take pills to kill herself. Or the newlyweds, who seemed to spend all their time indoors.

Hitchcock put different characters in the apartment with Jeff so that it always wouldn’ t just Jeff by himself. There was his girlfriend Lisa, who helped him solve the murder with her female intuition. Or Detective Coyle, who thought Jeff was imagining the whole thing and believed he wanted a good news story since he was bored because he had to stay in the apartment while his broken leg healed up. He also added one of Jeff’ s neighbors, who was looking after him.

Jeff used his reporter skills to solve the murder of Mrs. Thorwald. He first started to get suspicious when he saw Mr. Thorwald leave the house three times during the night with a suitcase. Then in the morning he saw Mr. Thorwald tie a suitcase with some heavy duty rope. He figured that Mrs. Thorwald’ s body pieces were in the suitcase but he later learned that her clothes were in the suitcase and that she had supposedly “ left “ for the country to help her health as an invalid. His girlfriend, Lisa, told him though that all the witnesses all agreed on seeing a woman but not the Mrs. Thorwald, the future one. She and the neighbor woman also said that no woman would leave behind her favorite purse along with her wedding band at home while on a trip unless she was dead. Another clue was that a neighbor ‘s dog had been found dead when it had been digging around Thorwald‘ s garden that same day. They noticed that he had not come to the window like everyone else had when the dog was found. So Lisa and the neighbor woman started digging in the same exact area to find what was buried there. Turns out Thorwald had moved whatever was buried into his house. Lisa got the bright idea to go into his house and find the wedding ring and find the ring she did. Then along came Thorwald who found her and roughed her up a bit. Jeff called the police to save and right before she was taken away, she signaled him with her hands that she had found the ring. Except Thorwald caught and came after Jeff to kill him which proved he was guilty.

In conclusion, those three ways proved that Hitchcock could make a suspenseful film, and yet keep the cameras in Jeff’ s apartment without making it boring. He added new characters like Detective Coyle, you could spy on the neighbors like Miss Torso through his binoculars and camera, and he used Jeff’ s reporter skills to solve murder like how and why Thorwald killed the neighbors dog. These three things added up to a great film.
I'm tired of being
What you want me to be
Lost under the pieces
Right in front of you
And every step is a
Mistake to you
I've become so numb
Can't you see that
You're smothering me
Holding to tightly
Afraid to let go
You're pushing me away
Cause everything you wanted
Me to be
Is falling apart
Right in front of you
Just caught in the undertow
I've become so numb
All I want to do
Is be more like me
Less like you
