When Jack London wrote the book, Call of the Wild, he wrote it in a way that would make us think about what the call was. This is what the call is. The call of the wild is about returning to our survival instincts and living as our earliest ancestors did where only the strong survive. A dog named Buck answers this call and transforms from a pampered poodle into a hardened canine that may have been greater than the fierce wolf.

The call of the wild is about living by instincts. The being does not have any ties to anyone but itself. This being is living as nature and their ancestors genes intended for them. They are wilder and fiercer than any wild animal because the being has gone back to acting like their earliest ancestors when survival was a daily thing to accomplish. The being would be described as living up to their racial heritage to the fullest extent.

A dog named Buck answers the call of the wild and he goes from being a pampered favorite in sunny California to a hardened dog that was better than the wolf. When Buck first gets to Alaska, he does not want to be a sled dog but after learning the law of “fang and club,” he starts to learn how to survive in the wilderness like digging a hole in the snow to keep warm. Later on he leans to enjoy working as a sled dog and that humans can’t always be relied on as in the case of Mercedes, Charles, and Hal. Buck then learns what it’s like to love somebody so much you would do anything for them like he did for John Thurston.

Buck first began answering to the call when he made his first kill which was the lead dog, Spitz and Buck became the dominant primordial beast who had killed and found it good.
Towards the end of the story when Buck was rescued by John Thurston, we learn that due to his heritage Buck looks like a massive wolf and that he has great speed and cunning just like a wolf. When he grows tired of catching small prey like fish, he decides to go after bigger prey which happens to be a bull moose that he takes down on his own. When the Yeehats kill John, Buck no longer has any ties to the humans and joins a wolf pack to live up to his racial heritage.

So in all, the “call of the wild,” is about living as our ancestors did. A dog named Buck answers this call and he answers the call to become one with the wolves. Jack London did make you think about the “call “ really hard and that is what he probably intended.
